Demonstration & Presentation
by abstract expressionist artist Julie Bernstein Engelmann

Julie Bernstein Engelmann, an abstract artist from Indiana, PA, believes that one of the strongest differences between a "real artist" and one who is trying, is their comfort with - and ability to embrace - their materials.

Especially for abstract painting, where the handling of the materials carries the meaning of the artwork instead of the subject matter doing so, the qualities of the paint itself must be fresh and fascinating!

Julie shows how - through seven strategies of "planned accident" - to enjoy paint and enhance the wonderful things it can do without our contriving, mental intervention. She focuses on tuning into an intuitive, moment-to-moment "spiritual connection" while painting.

Julie uses mixed mediums: conte, acrylic and latex.
