"Spiritual Encounters" Art Exhibit at Monroeville Public Library
Oil-over-acrylic abstract paintings by artist Julie Bernstein Engelmann will be exhibited at Gallery Space in the Monroeville Public Library from October 4-25, 2008. The show, entitled "Spiritual Encounters," is characterized by vibrant color, rich texture, and a spontaneous approach.
The public is invited to attend the free opening reception on Saturday, October 4, 6:00-8:00 PM.
Ms. Engelmann holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College in New York City, where she studied with first-generation abstract expressionist Milton Resnick. Currently a resident of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Julie is president of the Indiana Art Association and vice president of the Indiana Arts Council. Her artwork has won many First Place and Best of Show awards in Western Pennsylvania. Julie is represented by La Fond Galleries in Pittsburgh and is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Society of Artists. Julie is an ArtsPath rostered artist in the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Directory of Artists-In-Education. Her paintings are included in the collections of the Greater Latrobe School District and numerous corporations.
"Spiritual Encounters" refers to Julie's passion for painting as a spiritual exercise. "The painting process is my love song to God. Once I realized that that was my whole intention, everything began to flow more easily and joyfully. My paintings reflect the freedom and richness of the intuitive, present moment."
Some works from the Gallery Space show can be seen in Julie's online gallery at www.julieengelmann.com. The web site also links to "Julie's Spiritual Space," a series of spiritual exercises that Julie writes as part of a newsletter.
One painting from the show will be donated to the Monroeville Public Library for their growing collection of approximately 100 artworks.
The Monroeville Library's Gallery Space is located at 4000 Gateway Campus Boulevard, off Mosside Boulevard, in the Gateway school complex. The gallery is open during library hours: Monday-Thursday 9AM-9PM, Friday-Saturday 9AM-5PM, and Sunday 2-5PM.
